Margaret M. "Peg" Fukes

Margaret M. "Peg" Fukes, of East River Manor, formerly of Fraser St., New Glasgow, passed away September 28, 2015 at home. She was born in Sutherland’s River, the daughter of Alex and Ethel (Olding) MacLean. She is survived by daughters-in-law: Nancy Fukes, New Glasgow; and Joan Fukes, Westville; grandchildren: Drew (Tracy) Fukes, North Carolina; Craig (Shauna) Fukes, New Glasgow; Michelle Fukes (Aaron Freeland), Scarborough, ON; Christopher (Sheri) Fukes, Coldbrook, NS; great grandsons: Nolan and Brennan, New Glasgow; great granddaughter, Hayden, North Carolina. She is also survived by three nieces, two nephews and their families, as well as special friends, Rev. Robert and Joan Cruickshank. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edgar; sons: William and Michael; brothers: Ross and Olding; and dear friend, Claude Sutherland. Peg was a valued employee of Zellers and Fred C. Morrison Ltd. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of Catherine Mair, a former choir member and Sunday School teacher. Peg was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Peg was a lady of great faith and lived by the motto "It is better to give than receive". She will be greatly missed. The funeral will be 2 pm Saturday, October 10, in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. The family will receive visitors from 1-1:45 pm in the Sanctuary. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church, SPCA or a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
