John "Jack" McVicar

John Samuel "Jack" McVicar, age 96, of the Glen Haven Manor, formerly of Egerton, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 in the Manor. Born in Egerton, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Orr) McVicar. He was a retired grader operator with the Dept of Highways and worked in the Shell Finish Shop during WW II. Jack was an avid card player, enjoyed market gardening and working the family farm. He was a member of the former Saint Andrews Roman Catholic Church, Egerton. He is survived by a daughter, Molly (Hazen) Greene, Ontario; sons: Charles (Susan), Ontario; Brian (Kathy), Ontario; Alan, Egerton; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Hardy Welsh; sister, Sheila; brother, Owen. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral mass 11 am Monday in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore, with Fr. Colin MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in Saint Andrews Cemetery, Egerton. Donations in his memory may be made to Saint Andrews Cemetery.
