Evelyn Chisholm

1928-2018

Evelyn Chisholm

Evelyn Marie (Cunningham) Chisholm, age 90. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother on Monday, March 12, 2018.  Born January 8, 1928 in Havendale, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late Gregory and Leona (Cunningham) Cunningham.  She was predeceased by her husband, William James Chisholm.

In her earlier years, Mom worked at St.FX, Antigonish.  She moved to New Glasgow and worked at McCarron’s Tea Room before she married.  Her faith was the most important thing to her along with her love for gardening, her trips back home to Guysborough to visit her family, and baking.  Our childhood friends loved her homemade bread and cookies.

Mom had immense joy and made lasting friendships through her involvement with St. John's Altar Society of which she was a member for over 32 years. More recently she joined the CWL as she missed her involvement with the church community.

She is survived by six children, daughters: Karen (Mark) Vyse, Middle Sackville; Cathy (Joe) Bates, New Glasgow; Janet (Steve) Cormier, Little Harbour; Paula (Frank) Boudreau, Abercrombie; sons: Gary (Kathy Brown) Chisholm, Mill Cove; Neil (Janice) Chisholm New Glasgow; 13 grandchildren: Anita Vyse, Jason Vyse, Scott (Christie Mathieu) Chisholm, Heather (Chris) Oldroyd, Stephen (Elizabeth) Cormier, Adam (Tara) Bates, Brian (Kari-Lynne) Chisholm, Lisa Chisholm, Jennifer (Billy) Dobson, Lauchlan (Miranda) Chisholm, Katelyn (Nick Fraser) Cormier, James (Lauren Fitzpatrick) Cormier and Kimberly Cormier; step grandchildren: Frank, Mathew, Devon Boudreau; great grandchildren: Ava Chisholm; Kyleigh and Keigan Chisholm; Jack and Logan Bates; Addison and Heidi Oldroyd; Brett, Kate and Alexa Cormier; and Jaxx Fraser; step great grandchildren: Kalem Boudreau, Aden Porter, Holden and Cohen Reashor; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.  Mom was the eldest of 16 children: Marion Shea, Lesterdale; Joseph (Donna) Cunningham, Hammonds Plains; Dorothy Gingras, Havendale; James (Dolly) Cunningham, Lower Sackville; Florence (Cecil) Titus, Fall River; Frances Cunningham, Havendale; Kay (Joseph) Chisholm, Havendale; Lee (Robert) Hamersma, Lesterdale; Austin (Kelly) Cunningham, Smithville, ON; Jeannie Chubb, Edmonton, AB; Bernadette (Tommy) Long, Lesterdale; foster sister and brother, Marie (Ari) Ruitenberg, Sussex, NB; James Dobson, Havendale. She was predeceased by brother, Louis "Bud"; sister, Helen; sister and brother in infancy, Frances and Leo; brothers-in-law, Real Gingras, John Chubb and Jackie Shea; sister-in-law, Helen Cunningham.
