Maude MacLean

1924-2019

Maude MacLean

           Laura Maude MacLean, age 94, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully at Glen Haven Manor on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sunnyville, Guysborough Co. on February 14, 1924, Maude was a daughter of the late John Gordon and Lillian Ann (Dorrington) Skinner.

            Maude was a loving mother and homemaker and she adored her family. She loved cooking, sewing, knitting and gardening.  Maude had a great sense of humour and zest for life. She always greeted everyone with a warm smile and had a beautiful spirit. She was a generous person and was loved in the community. 

            Maude was an active member of Second United Baptist Church. She was strong in her faith and loved her Lord. Maude was committed to and very involved in her church. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Ladies Auxiliary, Finance Committee, Trustee Committee and the Social Committee for many years. She found great enjoyment in working for the Lord. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. 

            She is survived by her daughters: Gloria, Halifax; Dianne (Leo), New Glasgow; Marva, Toronto; Lois (Wendell), Dartmouth; Glenda (Eugene), New Glasgow; Rhonda (Larry), Amherstburg, ON; Janice, Maryland, USA; sons Alvin (Gardy), Truro; Gary, Saint John; Reginald (Cathy), Westville; Randolph, Toronto; Sherman, Dartmouth; Kevin (Kelli), Bedford; step-daughters: June, Sally both of Windsor, ON; Patsy, St. Croix, Virgin Islands; sisters: Elizabeth, Halifax; Pearl, New York; Rita, Antigonish; brother; Tom, Sunnyville; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

            Maude was predeceased by her father, John, mother, Lillian, husband, Alvin, daughter, Norma, sisters: Hattie, Dorothy, Ella, brothers: Wilfred, Earle, Norman, Chester, John, George, Henry (in infancy), Lloyd; and stepdaughter, Betty. 

            Visitation will be held at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave, New Glasgow, NS on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with the Ladies Auxiliary service at 7 pm. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 2 pm, Second United Baptist Church, 330 Washington Street, New Glasgow with Reverend Dr. Moses B. Adekola and Reverend Matthew G. Lucas officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date. A repast will take place following the service. Special thanks to the staff at Glen Haven Manor for their loving care throughout her time there.
