Ralph Mercanti Sr.

Ralph Mercanti Sr., 79, of New Glasgow, formerly of Hamilton, ON, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2019, at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born on October 15, 1939, he was the son of Doreen (Moxam) Mercanti and Ralph Mercanti Sr., He was predeceased by his mother and father; sisters: Millie, Donna and Gloria; and the love of his life, Teana (Smith) Mercanti. He is survived by his children, Shelley (Ron), Terry and Ralph Jr. (Nanci); grandchildren: Michelle (Fabian), Glenn, Eric (Erin) and Lyndsey (Rob); great grandchildren: Kali, Vincent, Eli, Halo and Caleb; sister, Patti; many nieces and nephews. Dad was employed as an iron worker, with a career spanning from Alberta to Nova Scotia. He enjoyed and was proud of his work. He would tell us he helped build Calgary in the early 70’s. Dad enjoyed music, exotic animals, fishing, movies and spending time with his family. He had many stories to tell and will be remembered for his sense of humor and generosity. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. We would like to thank the VON and Palliative Care staff at the Aberdeen Hospital. Donations may be made to the SPCA, VON or a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
