Nancy Shirley Bennett, age 86 of New Glasgow, wife of Richard and daughter of Lt. Col. L.M. and Elizabeth Rhodenizer, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 7, 2019.

In Nancy’s words, "Cheerio to my dear friends. Thank you for the good times. To my wonderful family who filled my life with love and pride you were my greatest achievement. I have lived a good life. Thank you."

After completing high school in New Glasgow, Nancy attended the Aberdeen School of Nursing where she completed the radiology program as an x-ray technician. After graduation, she accompanied her husband to England for two years where he furthered his education as an Athlone Fellow.

She devoted her life to her family and was a tremendous source of love and support to her husband. Her greatest joy and accomplishment in life was the raising of her three fine sons.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Richard; sons: Paul (Miriam), Tim (Jacinthe), and Peter (Sandra); grandchildren: Chelsea, Joshua, Corey, Sarah, and Isabelle; and great-grandchild, Maisie.

A farewell gathering will be held in the Green Room of the Glasgow Square Theatre, 155 Riverside Parkway, New Glasgow, on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 7-9 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Committal will take place at a later date.

Nancy and her husband founded the Sandbar Mental Health Endowment, a fund of the Aberdeen Health Foundation. Donations to this fund in her memory would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.

"And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek" to join the great spirit that unites us all. - apologies to Khalil Gibran.
