Samuel 'Sam' Stewart
1947-2020
Samuel Joseph Holden "Sam" Stewart, age 72, of New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020, in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William and Constance "Connie" (Holden) Stewart. Sam was well known for singing around Pictou County and for his role with the runaway crane on MacLean Street. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 28, Stellarton. He is survived by a son: Joseph "Joe" (Michelle) Stewart, New Glasgow; daughter, Crystal Crowell, Plymouth Park; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, Jayden; companion: Thelma Steele; siblings: Cindy Anderson, New Glasgow; Joyce Murray, Thorburn; Jerry (Margie) Stewart, New Glasgow; Jimmy Stewart, New Glasgow; Debbie McLaren, Truro; Melvin (Linda) McLaren, Truro; David (Sherry) McLaren, Truro; Wayne McLaren, Truro; Lorraine (Kenny) Smith, Truro; Terry McLaren, Moncton; Dougie McLaren, Truro; Robbie (Laurie) McLaren, Pugwash; Pearl Cameron, New Glasgow; former wife: Helen MacDonald; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Arnold Stewart and Dale McLaren and his biological father, Danny McLaren. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday, February 25 in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. A graveside service will be held in Lorne Cemetery at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to his family. Royal Canadian Legion Br. 28 will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm Tuesday to conduct their service.
