Roderick MacDonald

1936-2020

John Roderick "Black Rod" MacDonald, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2020. Born April 6, 1936, he was a son of the late Rod and Pearl (Gillespie) MacDonald. Retired from Canada Post, Rod enjoyed bowling and his many friends at the alley. He was a member of AA, which was a meaningful part of his life. Rod is survived by his sons, Rory and Doug (Linda), daughter, Alison (Jerome); grandchildren, Moira, Mason, Sandi, Tim, Jill and Isaac; great-grandson, Levi; sister, Sister Mary Joan, CND. He was predeceased by sisters, Marguerite, Dorothy and Helen; brothers, Douglas, Lloyd and Norman; daughter-in-law, Kathy. Visitation 2-4 pm Thursday, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. A private family service will be held. Sincere thanks to Dr. Kwasnik and the nursing staff of Palliative Care. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit c/o Aberdeen Health Foundation.
