John Fraser

John Alexander Fraser, age 92, of New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Marshdale, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Etta (Gordon) and George Fraser. John is survived by his daughter, Joel (Bill); sons: Brad (Shelley), their daughters, Janetta (Nik), Lauren (Bryan) and Darcy (Kevin); Blake (Michelle), his daughter, Randi; sister, Jean (Don) Murray; sister-in-law, Kay Hooper; brother-in-law, Floyd (Judi) Fullerton; several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Marge; son, Brent in infancy; brother, Robert in infancy; and sister, Isabel in childhood. John enjoyed a career with Maritime Tel and Tel for 39 years, working in New Glasgow, Sydney and Halifax. John was a devoted member of Trinity United Church; member of the Masonic Lodge for over 65 years, attending Curren No. 68 Hopewell before recently becoming affiliated with Keith No. 23 Stellarton. John enjoyed friendships of many people and being a member of the New Glasgow Gyro Club, Telephone Pioneers and the Saint Andrew’s Society. He also enjoyed his daily coffee group. Visitation 2-5 pm Saturday, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 pm Sunday in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Trinity United Church, Palliative Care Unit c/o Aberdeen Health Foundation or a charity of choice. John’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care team for their compassionate care of Dad during his brief illness.
