Harold Alexander

1933-2020

Harold Alexander

Harold Roy Alexander, age 86, passed away at Ivey's Terrace, Trenton, NS on Friday March 27, 2020.

Our Dad was born in Moncton N.B. on April 4, 1933 and was the oldest son of Walter H. and Jessie (Crossman) Alexander. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was a Signal Maintainer with CN Rail, retiring in 1993 after 43 years of service.  Dad was a member of IBEW Local 11, United Commercial Travelers Pictonian Council No. 879 New Glasgow; New Glasgow Duplicate Bridge Club; as well as an active member of the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Group.

He was a past member of Session of Westmount United Church, Westmount, Cape Breton and St. James United Church, Antigonish, N.S. and enjoyed singing in various church choirs over the years.  He also spent time as a lay minister in Antigonish County and in later years, was leader of the Boys Brigade Kenzieville, Pictou County. Dad enjoyed woodworking, upholstery and furniture building and refinishing. For a time, he taught night school upholstery classes at the high school in Antigonish.

His life was devoted to the well-being of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He and Mom took great pride in the restoration of their property in Kenzieville, Pictou County "Little Brook Farm", and many happy family gatherings were held there over the years. He was predeceased by his loving wife of over sixty years, the former Bona "Bonnie" Ruth Spicer of Apple River, NS; daughters: Cheryl Anne and Christa Joy; granddaughter, Beverly Dee; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Alexander; son-in-law, Bill O’Connor; brother, Ray; and nephews: David and Daniel.  He is survived by daughters: Carla, Trenton; Colleen (Andrew), Bedford; sons: Larry (Bettie), Truro; Troy (Nadine), Calgary; Stephen (Darlene), Abercrombie; grandchildren: Rebecca, Robert, Shane, Vanessa, Amy, Ryan, Gavin, Kylee; great-grandchildren: Kelsey and Laura; and nephew, John Alexander; grandniece, Katelyn Alexander, her son, King Alexander-Bankes and her mother, Kathy Alexander, all of Moncton, NB.

The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and staff at Ivey's Terrace Nursing home, and for the extra time they spent with Dad while family was restricted from visiting due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak. For that we are immensely grateful.  We would also like to thank Dr. Chris Elliott, all of the medical professionals and staff in Pictou County and the Oncology professionals and staff in Halifax for the wonderful care given to our father during his decline.

At his request, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.H. Porter Funeral Home and a celebration of his life and burial arrangements will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made to the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Group, Pictou County Food Bank or a charity close to your heart.
