Dorothy 'Dot' Dixon

1921-2020

Dorothy 'Dot' Dixon

Dorothy "Dot" Dixon, age 98, of the Valley View Villa, formerly of Piedmont, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in the Villa. Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Robert and Maggie Johanna (Cumming) MacIntosh. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. Dot was a fantastic cook and loved to bake. No one ever left her house without at least having a cup of tea and some delicious morsel. Quilting was also a passion. Her eye for colour and composition turned out beautiful handstitched works of art. Cribbage anyone? You had to be prepared to lose if you challenged Dot to this game. She was also very well known for her sharp wit and her great sense of humour. Dot and Eddie loved to dance and what great dancers they were. If there was an "old time" dance anywhere in the County, you can be sure they were there. Dot was also quite a historian. Her knowledge and memory of people, places and events in Piedmont and surrounding areas were astounding. Dot was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Valley View Villa. Many of you have shared stories in the past of some of your encounters with Dot. Those stories, as well as your everyday actions and empathy, show how much you truly cared. She is survived by chosen daughter, Janice Williams Cameron (John); numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; sisters: Christina Harrtz, Frances Crockett, Louise Thompson, Catherine Williams, twin sister Gertrude Sutherland; brothers: Charles and James. A private family graveside service will take place in the Piedmont Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Piedmont Cemetery Fund or the SPCA. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
