Harold Roland Boone. Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Papa, passed
away suddenly but peacefully at his beloved cottage at Melmerby Beach
June 24, 2012. Born in Trenton, Sept. 27, 1935, he was a son of the
late Percy and Dorothy Boone (nee Eagles) and is survived by loving
wife and companion of 54 years, Myrna; 4 children: Karla, Daryl,
Caroline (Mark), and Colleen (Glenn); 13 Grandchildren: Sharon,
Herbie, Andrea, Connor, Stephanie, Christine, Courtney, Vincent,
Nathan, Maria, Catherine, Diana and Joseph; and 2 great grandchildren:
Sarah and David. He is also survived by brother: James (Bud) and
sister-in- law Vivian; mother-in-law Flo Marshall. He was predeceased
by a sister Loretta, in infancy. The Weatherbie and Eagles families
also feel the loss. He retired after 30 years in the Royal Canadian
Navy, serving on six ships, Master Seaman, Airframe Technician. During
this time, he was blessed with many fine memories, friends and travel,
and still loved to recount funny stories, as if they happened
yesterday. An expert kite maker, bicycle fixer, giver of Juicy Fruit
and coins to all neighbourhood children who asked him for
anything–.he was Mr. Boone, Mr. Fixit and Mr. Everything to so
many. Even wild animals would join Papa on the deck for his morning
coffee. He received his private pilot’s license in Waverley,
1952, and enjoyed many hours of flying the friendly skies, and had it
not been for his eyesight, his dream to build his own kit plane would
have come true. An avid guitarist, brilliant yet humble, he always
made Chet Atkins proud as he perfected this difficult finger playing
style. Some of our best memories were of falling asleep at the
cottage listening to Papa effortlessly playing Freight Train and Mr.
Sandman on the guitar. Thankfully, he has passed his gift of music
onto some of his grandchildren. Our father, Harold, left us not only
his memories, but more importantly, his legacy of love, of family, and
of friendship. He never had an unkind word to say about
anyone–except when he never won the lotto. Papa was our lotto.
We were blessed to have him for as long as we did. He was loved as
much as anyone could love another. He was our quiet comfort, a true
gentleman, with a strong faith in God. Please join us to celebrate
his life on Thursday, June 28 at the Little Harbour Community Centre
where there will be a brief service beginning at 2 pm with a reception
to follow. Please dress casually and come join us for coffee. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
