R. Douglas Fraser

1947-2015

R. Douglas Fraser

It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our dear brother Doug Fraser, of Brook Street, Trenton, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Doug was born in New Glasgow, NS on October 14, 1947 to the late Ranald Fraser and the late Theresa K. (MacGillivray) Fraser of Trenton. Doug lived in Trenton all his life.  He attended school in Trenton and later the Nova Scotia Technical Institute in Halifax where he studied Auto Body Mechanics. He was employed by Clark Tire Ltd., New Glasgow, NS, drove an oil delivery truck and worked at the Texaco Service Station on the Stellarton Road, New Glasgow, for Louis Hughes. Doug became the Owner-Operator of the Service Station upon the retirement of Louis Hughes, where he was honoured by Texaco Canada for Outstanding Service. He worked there until the late 1980’s when he retired due to a severe back injury.  He was an avid reader of autobiographies and anything non-fiction. He loved music and played the keyboard by ear. He took pride in restoring the beauty in cars – his own and those of his family and friends.  He enjoyed watching Nascar racing, and his daily drives with his little dog Cleo. He was a friend to many, and often there to lend a hand to anyone needing assistance. He was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 29, Trenton. He is survived by his twin brother, Harry Fraser of Trenton; brother, Gary (Janet) Fraser, Scotsburn; sisters: Patricia (Donald) Hussher, Trenton; Florence (Wilf) Rector, Fort St. John, BC;  nieces: Karen (Jim) Pothier, Trenton; Gayle (Simon) Fraser-Lafrance, Ottawa; Kathy (Scott) Roberts, Goodlowe, BC; Linda Rector, Fort St. John, BC; Dianna (Bill) Everson, ON; Donna Rector, Halifax; many grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant brother Daniel D. and brother John Roderick Fraser. He was also predeceased by many aunts and uncles including a Special Uncle, Duncan Roderick MacGillivray. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton with viewing on Sunday, February 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
