Ronald 'Ronnie' McNeill
Ronald Allan "Ronnie" McNeill, Abercrombie.
Shirley and Mark and family are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Ronnie at home on February 18, 2021, at the age of 73.
Born in Pictou on July 31, 1947, Ronnie was the eldest son of the late Pellar and Timmie McNeill.
Growing up in Pictou, Ronnie loved music and played in several bands throughout the County.
Ronnie met his true love, Shirley, in 1967 and this year they would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Ronnie and Shirley became proud parents to Mark in 1977, changing their lives forever. Ronnie loved being a dad (aka the Old Man) and was so proud watching Mark grow into the successful family man he is today. His love expanded in 2017 when he became Grandpa to his first grandson, Lachlann, and in 2019 his heart melted again with the birth of his granddaughter, Freyja.
After 36 years with Michelin, Ronnie retired in 2007. After retirement, Ronnie and Shirley enjoyed many trips together, especially to Myrtle Beach. He loved being with his family and enjoying his pool and gardening.
Like his dad, Ronnie loved tinkering and doing odd jobs around the house. He took great pride in his property and the house that he and Shirley built in Abercrombie.
Ronnie was predeceased by his parents, Pellar and Timmie McNeill; and his father-in-law, John Poulain.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Poulain); their son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Desirea McNeill, of Oromocto, NB; and his grandchildren and favorite Valentines, Lachlann and Freyja McNeill. Also surviving are his brothers, David and Robbie McNeill; sisters: Janet (Clary) Melanson; Ann (David) Porter; and Cathy (David) Bourgeois, all of Pictou; mother-in-law, Mildred Poulain; brother-in-law, John (Heather) Poulain; sister-in-law, Sherri (Bernie) Berube; and many nieces and nephews.
His remains have been cremated. No visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Pictou County SPCA. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
