Mary Arlene Thistle, age 57, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021 at the Aberdeen Hospital with her 2 sisters by her side.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary (MacInnis) Thistle. Arlene was a life-long "North Ender". She was employed at Wear Well Garments Ltd. in Stellarton for 30 years where she made so many friends. All who knew her, remember her good nature and kindness and her eye for a good deal at the many yard sales/flea markets she attended with her long-time friend, Sharron Crowther. She definitely had a sweet tooth, and her favorite meal was fish and chips! She became a seasoned traveler with her 2 sisters Joan and Sharon, enjoying a trip to the Dominican and to Las Vegas.  She enjoyed the simple things in life – taking walks, flowers, reading, going to the beach, and shopping for those little trinkets. Without fail, she always remembered everyone’s birthday, and you would receive a very unique gift from her. She had a hearty laugh and a big smile that would get your attention.  She adored her cats and really enjoyed the many visits from "Monty".

She is survived by her sisters: Joan (Kevin) MacLean, Sharon (Darrell) Hirtle; nieces: Chrissy (Glen) Core; Heather (Scottie) Colpitts; Michele (AJ) Fanning; Lynn (Thomas) MacDonald; nephew, Kelly (Bethany) Hirtle; as well as several grandnieces and nephews; chosen family, Billy Martell and Terry Morrison. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, David Thistle; infant sister, Janice; and grandnephew, Chace MacDonald.

We would like to thank the nursing staff on the 5th floor at the Aberdeen Hospital, and a special thank you to Dr. Kwasnik, Rhonda Langille and the nursing staff in Palliative Care.

Cremation has taken place and a family graveside burial service will be held in the Spring at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations can be made to Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or VON. Arrangements are under the direction or R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
