Ida Victoria (Lumsden) MacKay, passed away peacefully at Shiretown Nursing Home, Sunday, March 28, 2021, Ida was 98. She was born in Trenton on April 22, 1922. Ida is survived by daughter, Donna Lee (MacKay) Barron and son-in-law, Allen Steven Barron; 6 grandchildren: Peter J. MacKay; Jennifer J. MacKay Rent; James "Jim" Timothy Cecil Barron; Bradley Joseph William Barron; Todd Stewart Douglas Barron; Heidi Victoria Barron; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Rent; two sisters-in-law: Grace MacKay, Lochaber; Maureen Lumsden, Hilden; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Leslie L. and Mildred (Hunt) Lumsden; husband, John Henry Gordon "Red" MacKay; son, Ernest Gordon MacKay; brothers: Ernest Lumsden, Leonard Lumsden and Robert Lumsden. Ida’s door was always open to family, friends and anyone who needed a helping hand. There was always room for one more. A few other favourites deserve special mention: Donna’s two friends from childhood, Jane (Kehoe) Proctor and Penny Lee Lange "the other daughters"; the Camerons, Taylors, and Dempsey family (who are now like family). To the Pictou County VON, thank you so much for all your help; because of you, Ida was able to stay at home until she was almost 98. A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Shiretown Nursing Home where Ida resided the last 10 months of her life. We love you Ida. There will be no visitation at this time due to COVID. A private funeral will be held at 11am Saturday, April 3, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Interment at Lorne Street Cemetery following the service. Donations may be made to First United Church, Trenton; Trinity United Church, New Glasgow or the Pictou County SPCA.
