The family of Charles 'Stanley' Hodder sadly announce his passing on September 2, 2021 at the age of 83. He was born July 5, 1938 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to the late Charles and Laura Wilhelmina (Lewis) Hodder.
To him family always came first. His love for our mother was endless and there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. He was a wonderful father and would come to our aid in any situation.
He had so much knowledge of so many things that we could depend on him, no matter what the question, because not only did he know the answers but he was always eager to help with the solutions. It was easy to be his friend, and he had many. He loved people and they knew it. He was not afraid to show love and appreciation, with a handshake, a hug, a smile and always a pleasant greeting.
He tirelessly and faithfully worked in the positions he was called to in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Branch President, Bishop, Patriarch and other leadership positions.
He was a true entrepreneur and enjoyed everything he put his hand to. He owned several businesses, worked 13 years on the Glace Bay Police Department, but his most enjoyable time was working in the Toronto Ontario Temple as a Stationary Engineer.
He loved to learn new things and he worked hard, but when work was done, he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, sewing, and watching the Raptors play.
He is survived by his children, Jane Anne (Howard) MacKinnon, Mark (Christy Tuttle) Hodder, Owen (Leslie Stead) Hodder, daughter-in-law, Jo-Anne (Larocque) Hodder, and a very special forever daughter, Brenda McKinnon (Steven) Earl, and grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Day, Ashley (Chad) Quist, Alec (Tyria Chapman) MacKinnon, and Laura MacKinnon; Gregory (Vianna) Hodder, Clara (Caleb) Smith, and Elsa (Caleb) Allred; Emily, Rebecca, Luke, Julia and Vivian Hodder; Renee Rassmussen, Monica White, Curtis Earl, Chelece Wood, Melissa Jacobson, and Natalie Belnap, and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Ethel Penney, Hazel Ross, Vera Keifer, Diane Atchison, brother Kenneth, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Patricia MacKay in 2015, his son Edward Murray in 2003, and his sisters Alberta, Thelma, Marilyn, Carolyn, and brother Roy.
Visitation will be from 7-9 pm on Wednesday at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral will be by invitation only, due to Covid restrictions. Donations to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer's Society or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
