Doreen Humphreys

1933-2021

Doreen Humphreys

Doreen (Johnson) Humphreys, formerly of Trenton, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly and peacefully on September 17, 2021 in New Glasgow at the age of 88.  She was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Jessie (Archibald) Johnson; beloved husband of 52 years, G. Stuart Humphreys; cherished brother, Lloyd and sister, Eunice and their spouses, Velma and Don; and nephew, Stephen Johnson. She left behind many who cherished her as a remarkable mother, grandmother, aunt, nurse and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Baldwin (Steven); grandchildren, Benjamin (Sheena), Daniel (Britney), Helene (Luke), great-grandchildren, Emerson, Elijah, Audra and Bea; sister-in-law, Gloria Ingram (Ross); cousin, Glenn Gertson (Jan); nieces, Kathy Bond (Kirk), Helen (Will) Funk, Lynda-Lee Ingram; nephews, Gordon Fisher (Myrna), David, Robert and Kevin Ingram; and great nieces and nephews. Doreen leaves behind many dear friends and will be greatly missed by her lifetime friend, Vivian Boone. She left a legacy of love.

Doreen was born on May 28, 1933 in Upper Economy and treasured her childhood home, spending as much time there as she could and relishing every aspect of country life. She lived out her faith in her work as a nurse and was widely recognized for caring for her patients with compassion and dedication. Doreen was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Trenton since 1964, a true role model and leader in her own right, serving as the Missionary President for many years and as a member of the Gideons. Doreen’s home was filled with warmth and many will remember being welcomed with a plate of her famous biscuits. She shared her energy, good will and hospitality with everyone she met, even after her move to Highcrest Place in 2014.

The family would like to thank Linda Freeman and the staff at Highcrest Place for their exceptional care and compassion. Special thanks to Kathy Bond ("little Doreen") and Cheryl Boyd, her "N.S. daughters" and to Dale Lawson her long-time friend for attending to her over these last few years.  Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, Gideons or Church of the Nazarene would be greatly appreciated.

A private service for family and close friends will be held at the Church of the Nazarene. A link to the service is below. A public burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery at 3 pm Sunday, September 26. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
