Jean Fraser

Jean Margaret Fraser of the Northumberland Veterans Unit Pictou, formerly of Trenton, November 28, 1926 – September 17, 2021.

Blessed with her presence for 94 years, Jean Margaret Fraser passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17th, knowing she was deeply loved by all of those who knew her.

Born November 28, 1926 in Enfield, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret (Reynolds) Dillman. Nan was honoured to enroll in the army and proudly became a transport driver during WWII with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC). It was during this time she met and later married the love of her life, after which, she raised her children. She then returned to the workforce, this time in the circulation department with the Evening News in New Glasgow. Her love of fashion and "bling" led to her time spent working at K-Mart, where she was a bugger for the "blue light special," and you would never catch her without her lipstick, even all these years later. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a custodian by the Pictou District School Board, where she took great pride in knowing she played a hand in looking after the students, as children always had her heart, and spent many years as a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary RCL Branch 34, as well as the First United Church in Trenton.

Lovingly left with memories of many Christmas mornings around the tree are her sons, Danny (Juanita), Robert "Sonny" (Tana), daughters, Patricia (Fred), and Robin, as well as her grandchildren, Amanda (Mike), James "JB", Jeff (Shannon), Weldon (Ben), Cheyenne (Jonah), Robert (Lindsay), Andrew (Trish), and Shannon (Charlie), who will always remember banging the pots and pans on New Year’s Eve. She will also be missed by her adoring great-grandchildren, Emma, Keegan, Ben, Reid, Laine, Colt, Sonya, Meredith, Audrey, Caleb, Riley, Nash, Lucas and Hannah, who deeply loved their Great Nana "Jeans," as well as sisters, Hazel Chickness, June Dollarhide and brother, Wilfred (Ida), many nieces, nephews and cousins, including her special niece, Jeanne, and caring neighbour, Carmen.

Waiting to welcome her, along with her loving husband of 61 years, Herbert "Skipper" Fraser, will be her parents and her sisters, Evelyn, Ida and Violet, as well as her brother, Basil, son-in-law, Carl, brother-in-law, Robert "Bud," sister-in-law, Myrtle (Kaiser), sister-in-law Marjorie (Ted), and Burt.

Those who knew Nan knew she always had a pot of tea on, a meal, and a warm bed should you need it. They also knew her as a spitfire who loved fast cars with the roof down, the Montreal Canadiens, and dancing. She was recognized by her iconic hairstyle and infectious laugh. They also knew when "The General" surfaced, look out, you were in trouble (but she always loved you). She was also infamous for her love of animals, whether it be a monkey purchased from Swap and Shop, or a pony that frequented the legion, there were always loving pets on the corner of 7th and Duchess.

Nan’s generous heart transcends her life here on earth, and we feel she would be honoured if donations were made in her name to an organization that supports animals in need, or a charity of your choice.

We knew one day Hunner would knock on the kitchen pipe and tell you he was ready; we think he wants his foot rub….

They lived and loved together while here with us and will continue to do so forever. A public graveside service to honour Jean and Skipper will be held Friday September 24, at 2:00pm at the Abercrombie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
