Colin 'Collie' McInnis

1935-2021

Colin 'Collie' McInnis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Colin "Collie" Alexander McInnis of Trenton, NS on October 13th, 2021.

Collie was born at the Aberdeen Hospital to John and Ann (MacLean) McInnis on May 19, 1935.  He was raised in Trenton where he met and married the love of his life of 62 years, Norma (Wilson) McInnis, on May 9th, 1959.

As did most young people of that generation, he moved to Toronto with his wife and two children, Dorothy and Roddy, in search of work.  He worked as a mechanic from 1962-1969.  During this time they welcomed two more children, Colleen and John, before returning to Nova Scotia.

He spent the remainder of his career as a welder with Trenton Works.

Like most of the McInnis family, Collie was musically talented.  He was a self-taught guitar player, singer, yodeler and dancer and was always the life of the party.  Collie revelled in the opportunity to entertain and surprise people with his unusual attire (especially his hats).

As well as music, he had a passion for wildlife programs, western movies and comedies.

One of the greatest joys of his life was being a grandfather. He was always interested in and proud of all of his grandchildren’s accomplishments.

Collie and Norma created many happy memories with family and friends at their cottage in Middle Country Harbour. The love of the area prompted them to buy land and build their retirement home in Stormont. They were always appreciative to have family and friends visit and would always give a genuine "Thanks for coming" when company left.

Collie was a man who always took care of his family.  He was the type of man who would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need.

Collie was a strong, proud and good man.  He is loved and will be missed by many.

Collie is survived by his children: Dorothy (Diane) Kelowna, BC; Roddy (Wendy) Trenton, NS; Colleen (David), Trenton, NS; and John (Denise) Trenton, NS; his grandchildren: Edison, Toronto; Colin (Robyn), St. John’s , NL; Sean, Trenton, NS; and Kelsey (Greg), Halifax, NS; his brother, Sylvester "Bet" (Marnie); his sisters: Renie and Mildred "Mid"; his sister-in-law, Collette; and many nieces and nephews.

He was recently predeceased in June by his wife, Norma.  As well as his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Neil, Douglas, Donnie, Peter; his sisters Hilda, Dorothy "Dot", Mary "Mammie", Eunice and Jessie.

A memorial service will be held at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home Chapel, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow on Saturday, October 23rd at 11 am. A link to a recording of the funeral is below. As per the NS COVID-19 restrictions, all attendees must wear a mask and show proof of full vaccination and valid id. Burial will follow at the Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour.
