The family of Justin Tyler Robert MacGillivray, age 25, of Thorburn are saddened to announce his passing on December 3rd, 2021.

Justin was born July 8th, 1996 in New Glasgow.  He graduated from North Nova Educational Center in 2014 after which he travelled out west and received his 1st block in electrical.  He was employed with GPF Tree Services where his work crew was like family to him. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Thorburn Fire Department for many years, starting as a Junior Firefighter in his teens. His willingness and desire to help others was reflected in his work.

Justin was loved by all that knew him.  He had a personality and sense of humor, and you couldn’t help but laugh when he cracked a joke, which he did constantly.

Justin had a love for the outdoors and spent his time four-wheeling, hunting, fishing, and hanging out with his friends.  His love for the outdoors has been passed on to his daughter, Olivia – the love of his life.

Justin will always be remembered by his beautiful daughter, Olivia and her mother, Kayla MacKinnon; his parents, Kathy MacGillivray and Marc MacPherson; his brother, Jacob; grandparents, Billy and Susan MacGillivray, Arlene MacPherson (Leo), Joey MacPherson (Jan); great-grandmother, Janet Hingley; and great-great aunt, Claire Murphy.  Justin is also survived by his uncle, Brent and aunt, Lindsay; aunt, Taryn and her children Nate and Layla.  Justin was also an uncle to six great boys whom he loved dearly: Ethan, Hayden, Callen, Jackson, Bentley and Carson.  Justin had many cousins with whom he was very close who will miss him forever.

The family would like to thank Justin’s many friends for their love and support.  Justin cherished his friends so much and his memory will live on with them and his daughter Olivia.

The family will receive visitors at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, Tuesday, December 7 from 2-4 and 7-9pm.  Funeral service will be at the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, Wednesday, December 8th at 2pm. Per NS COVID restrictions, all attendees must wear a mask and show proof of full vaccination and valid ID at both the visitation and funeral.

Donations in Justin’s memory can be made to the Thorburn Fire Department or a trust fund for his most prized treasure his daughter, Olivia.

Justin, we will never forget you and we will always love you and cherish every memory (appropriate or not) and honour your one finger salute.
