John Alexander "Sandy" Morrison, 59, formerly of Trenton, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day at the Aberdeen Hospital after a long and valiant battle with COPD. Born in New Glasgow on April 24, 1962, he was the youngest son of the late James and Marion (Nicholson) Morrison.
Sandy was a very joyful, optimistic, grateful and compassionate person who dearly loved his family and his friends. Sandy was a man of strong Catholic faith, was very close to God, and prayed daily for the needs of others. He was an active member of his home parish of Christ the King in Trenton for most of his life. Sandy saw God in nature and he loved to sit outside and watch the sunrise. In his youth, Sandy loved to run competitively at the Trenton track and was very proud of his many first-place ribbons. He also enjoyed skating, swimming, weight training and going for long walks. Sandy was so enthusiastic about everything he did that he was an inspiration to all those around him.
Sandy is survived by his three brothers, Donald Morrison of Riverton, Allen (Simone) Morrison, Stephen Morrison, and his sister, Janet Morrison; his nephew, Steven Michael, and his two nieces, Maria and Natalie, all of Toronto.
The family would like to thank the staff at Shady Oaks, Office Street, Westville for their compassion and kindness towards our brother and for going above and beyond in making Sandy’s last years so happy.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Bradley MacDougall, the paramedics, and all the medical staff at the Aberdeen Hospital.
We would like to extend a very special thank you to Sandy’s dearest friend of more than 20 years, Sharon Heighton, who was always there for him, and whose friendship he cherished.

A Mass of Christian Burial, by invitation, will be held 2 pm Wednesday, December 29th from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Macdonald Ibeh officiating. A link to a recording of the service is below. As per NS COVID 19 restrictions, all attendees must wear a mask and show proof of full vaccination and valid ID. Burial to take place immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow.
