Amy (Vogt) Downie, 62, entered eternal life on Friday, May 20th, 2022 at Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS. Her bright and loving spirit is carried on by her husband and best friend, Mark Downie (New Glasgow) and children, Meredith and David Cox (Dartmouth), who were her pride and joy. Amy will be fondly missed by her sisters (Maine) and brother (Vermont) along with her extended family, including many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Janet (Shepard) Vogt. Amy spoke fondly of re-joining her mother to garden once again.

Amy’s vibrant personality left an imprint on most everyone with whom she met and chatted with. Amy was a retired RN, who had worked for NS Community Health, as well as Dalhousie University Nursing. Her compassion and love of people extended through her work with various volunteer organizations, including making thousands of finger puppets for the I.W.K. Children’s Hospital over the years. Amy loved to knit, read, craft, play her violin, and, more recently, her ukulele. Amy treasured time spent outdoors with her family and dogs, no matter the weather. She had a long list of amazing friends, many with whom she regularly exchanged beautiful letters and cards.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the Aberdeen and QEII Cancer Clinics and Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit doctors, nurses, and staff.

A Celebration of Amy’s life will be held at Life Branch Church, in Dartmouth, NS, Monday May 30th, 2022 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates and encourages donations made to impactful charities of choice, or time spent cleaning up and beautifying any part of your city, town, or village. Amy always believed in "leaving nature – and the world – better and more beautiful than you found it" and that, she certainly did.
