It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, Derek Allen Smith, 30, who passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2022, in Calgary Alberta. Derek was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Jessie (Daryl) Johnson and David Smith. Derek graduated from Westsyde Secondary school in 2009. He was an amazing son, brother and uncle and a wonderful friend to many. Derek’s love for music was very evident and he loved playing the guitar. He always put everyone before himself and didn’t have a mean bone in his body. He was such a polite person with an amazing sense of humor and an infectious laugh that everybody loved.

He will be sadly missed by his immediate family, Janine (Wesley) Morris; Jocelyn (Stace) DeWolf; Scott (Tammy) Johnson; Shaun Johnson; and Jennifer Johnson; aunts, Alice "Bubby" Carrigan; Carolyn "Dudy" Desmond; Juanita Desmond; Annette (Greg) MacLean; Darlene (Jamie) Johnson; and Karen Smith; plus many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Derek was predeceased by his grandparents, Evelyn (Bertram) Graham; Stanley (Evelene) Smith; aunt, Karen "Tiny" Desmond.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday, July 23, in Lorne Street Cemetery.
