Barry Douglas E. Fraser. On February 21, 1950, God sent an angel to Alva and Leata Fraser in the form of a son whom they named Barry. On July 14, 2022, He decided He needed him back. While he was here, Barry accomplished many things and left us with many wonderful memories.
Barry was many things to many different people; a beloved brother to us; a hunting buddy to some; a fish-tales buddy or a trapping teacher. He learned a great deal about mechanics from Henny Murphy while working at Horton’s Esso in Hillside and carpentry working with his life-long friend, Laurie Marshall. Everything he learned, he was eager to pass on to the next generation; whether it was how to tear apart and rebuild an engine; how to install a door; or just how to skin and dress a dear and clean a fish. His door was always open to anyone who wished to enter (as long as they weren’t angry with him).
Barry was predeceased by his parents, Alva and Leata; brothers: Edwin, Lewis and Donald; sister, Brenda; sister-in-law, Pat.
He is survived by brothers: Joseph, Glen Haven Manor; Albert, Hillside; Ian, Little Harbour; sisters: Geneva (George), Sydney; Evelyne (Blaine), Mountville; foster sister, Anne MacLean, Bedford; aunt, Betty Fraser, Hillside; best friend and brother-in-his-heart, Larry Fraser, Sydney; Jeff Scanlan (if he had a son, it would be you); 11 nieces and nephews: Janice, Rob, Paula, Heather, Jason Marc, Kelly, Alison, Mark, Brian, Joseph, Judy; many grand nieces and nephews and numerous great grands, for whom he had individual nicknames.
Although he had no biological children of his own, he cherished each child as if they were his and could always make them laugh.
He tried to live by the Golden Rule of Do unto others as you would like done to you. Hopefully we can all follow his lead.
As per Barry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service 11am Tuesday, July 19, at the Hillside Cemetery, with a gathering after at the Hillside Community Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
