Donald Robert "Donnie" Fraser. It is with
profound sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Donnie
Fraser, on August 2, 2022, at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre,
Halifax.
Donnie was born and raised in New Glasgow, and later in life
moved to Lower Sackville to be with his family. He
loved spending time with family, beating them at UNO and/or crib, or
just sitting around chatting. He had various jobs
in his lifetime, but in subsequent years he dedicated his time to
caring for his mom. He was a member of the Royal
Canadian Legion in Lower Sackville and very much enjoyed going there
on Friday nights prior to Covid.
Donnie had a love for life, family, his two cats and his dog,
Bailey. The saying "wouldn’t hurt a
fly" applies to Donnie, he would chase it out of the house
first. Donnie’s memory was astounding and
he was our "Google", long before such a thing
existed.
Donnie will be sadly missed by his brother, Sandy Fraser
(Pam) of Cole Harbour, NS, his sister, Janice Fraser (Debbie) of Lower
Sackville, NS, his nieces, Tracy Wright (Mike) of Moncton, NB, Erin
Wright (Kory) of Winnipeg, MB, Amy Grinter (Jason) of Cole Harbour,
NS, his nephews, Matthew Fraser of Dartmouth, NS, Justin Wright
(Lindsey) of Orange, TX and many great nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Helen
and Gerald Fraser, his sister Grace (Fraser) Conatser, and his
grandparents.
We would like to express special thanks to Tracy and Mike for
looking after Bailey, his neighbours Doug, Marsha and Chris for always
being a friend, the girls at the campground for always welcoming
Donnie with open arms and sharing whatever was on the menu at the time
(he loved to eat). In addition, thank you to the staff on the seventh
floor at the Nova Scotia Rehab Centre for their outstanding
care. Their dedication and kindness to Donnie will
never be forgotten.
As per Donnie’s wishes, there will be no
visitation. A memorial service will take place 11am
Saturday, August 27, at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New
Glasgow, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. The service was
recorded, a link is
below. Donations in
Donnie’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA or a
charity of your choice.
As Donnie
would say, "Oh, What a Day!
