We are saddened to announce the passing of Stanley "Stan" Johnston Williams on August 15, 2022 at Dartmouth General Hospital. He had celebrated his 95th birthday in July.
Stan was the son of Stanley A. and Elizabeth M. (Johnston) Williams. He was born and grew up in New Glasgow.
Stan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Verna Jean (Milton). His passing came the day before their 70th wedding anniversary. Stan was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Doug Ross, Brockville, Ontario and Barry Davis, Halifax, and recently by his faithful companion, his cat, Stormy.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Davidson (Gordon), Bridgewater; grandchildren, Sheilah (Kristoffer), Halifax; Janet, Bible Hill; and Ian (Kyleigh), Edmonton; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ross, Brockville, Ontario; and Marie Davis, Halifax; nieces, Lynn, Glenda and Norah; and nephew, Arthur.
Stan had a lengthy career as a commercial sales representative which saw him travel throughout the Maritimes, making friends wherever he went.
A member of the Masonic Lodge, he had achieved his 70th year bar.
Stan enjoyed woodworking, camping, golfing and singing. He was proud to be a founding member of the Dartmouth chapter of SPEBSQSA (Barbershop Singers) and sang with the chorus and various quartets.
His Christian faith was very important to him and participation in church choirs was a part of his expression of that faith.
He loved to make people laugh and appeared as Santa's Elf, a Royal Footman, a rustic Cape Breton comedian, and other memorable figures. Stan’s gift for mimicry added greatly to those characters.
Skeena Street, where Stan and Verna lived for 40 years, was a unique neighbourhood. Their home was a warm and welcoming place for neighbours and for generations of family and wonderful friends.
In keeping with Stan's wishes, a family burial will take place in New Glasgow at a later date.
