It is with utmost sadness I report our loving mother, Elsie Elliott Ryan, has passed away suddenly on Monday, September 26 th at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She is now with our Dad, arguing about what to have for dinner, and making sure they are finished before the Blue Jays game.

Born in Trenton, she was a daughter of the late Daniel MacLean and Jean Helen (Crooks) Jenkins and came from a large family of 12, seven girls and five boys, all of whom she loved very much.  Being a military wife for a large part of her adult life, she travelled with Dad to his postings; from Ontario to New Brunswick, from Germany to Ontario, and then from Calgary to Nova Scotia.  She missed her family immensely while away those years, but remained focused on providing the very best childhood for both Craig and I.

She was a very strong and loving woman, and man could she make a mean pan of squares or lemon pie (my Dad’s favourite).

She is survived by daughter, Janet Ryan-Kemp (Chris), New Glasgow; son, Craig Ryan (Brenda), Westville; grandchildren: Jennifer Wood (Justin), James Wood (Shannon), Stan Ryan (Roselyne), Jim Ryan (Laura); sisters: Gladys Lorimer, Trenton; Doris Dixon (Roger), Bedford; Linda MacDonald (Hugh), Trenton; Debbie Edwards, Bedford; brothers: Foster (Dorothy), Pictou Landing; Daniel (Susan), Chance Harbour; She was predeceased by her husband, Baxter Ryan; brothers: Robert, John and Ross; sisters: Eleanor and Judy.

There are not enough words to express my sincere thanks to the professional and loving group of folks at the Glen Haven Manor (Whispering Tide) who were her second family for the 7 1/2 years she called it home.  Your kindness to Mom and her family will never be forgotten.

She was absolutely everything I strive to be and I will forever miss our daily lunch dates.

At the family’s request, there will be no visitation and a private graveside service will take place. Donations may be made on her behalf to the Alzheimer’s Society or the SPCA. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
