Meghan Elizabeth Fraser, adoring mother of Aliyah Fraser, loving daughter of Rose and Clyde Fraser and caring sister to Aaron (Eve) and Brock Fraser, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 18th, 2022, at the age of 42.
Meghan was born on February 3rd, 1980, in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Home of the Guardian Angel and arrived in the middle of a snowstorm to the New Glasgow home of her parents Rose and Clyde Fraser on Feb 28th. Meghan immediately captured the hearts of her parents and extended family. She brightened the lives of those around her and left an indelible mark on her loved ones.
Meghan grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and siblings and was full of love. She cared deeply for those around her and always put the needs of others above her own. She was independent, charismatic, beautiful and resilient. Before long, Meghan developed a love for playing the piano, swimming, downhill skiing, track and field, figure skating, playing soccer and basketball and spending time at Pt. 44 with her grandparents. As a figure skater, Meghan, at 9 years of age, achieved many medals (largely gold) in provincial competitions being selected as the most promising skater of the year for N.S. by the Canadian Figure Skating Association. That same year Meghan received the Sun Life Merit Award for showing good sportsmanship, camaraderie, and all-round skating ability. Meghan, at 8 years old, joined Brian Orser and the Champions on Ice tour as the local ‘solo performer’ on the New Glasgow Stadium tour stop.
Meghan was loved by her late maternal and paternal grandparents, Patience Paris, Leonard Paris, Moi and Ralph Fraser. Grandmother Patience treasured Meghan and valued their short but meaningful time together. Patience cultivated Meghan's love of books and introduced her to literature at a young age. The two cherished their time reading together and developed a gentle, loving relationship. Meghan, being the first-born of 14 grandchildren to Moi and Ralph Fraser, won a warm and special place in their hearts. She enjoyed spending time at their home and especially out on the sandbar. Grandfather Ralph, a practical joker, could always find Meghan his match for his humor and trickery.
Ralph (Papa) encouraged Meghan to pursue a career in nursing due to her sharp intelligence and caring nature. Meghan took pride in her nursing career, completing her B.Sc. in Nursing in 2005 from St. Francis Xavier University, having overcome some challenging obstacles along the way. She was admired and highly respected by all of her colleagues and patients. Meghan was a diligent nurse who worked relentlessly to help all of her patients. This is evidenced in her 2015 award for Her Commitment to Success as a Team Member who Brightens someone else’s day, Enhances the self-esteem of others, Finds those little things that go above and beyond the call of duty.
Meghan was a natural-born caregiver and became a mother to Aliyah Fraser (father, Henry Omokhua) November 1st, 2000. Meghan and Aliyah had an inseparable bond and were glued at the hip. The two shared many positive memories and remain deeply intertwined into eternity.
Meghan is survived by both of her parents, Rose (Paris) and Clyde Fraser; her brothers, Aaron (Evelyn Leblanc) and Brock Fraser; nieces, Knoxy-Rose Fraser and Keira-Rose Alcorn and her beloved daughter, Aliyah Rose Fraser.
Celebration of Life at 2pm Thursday, October 27th at Trinity United Church, 151 Temperance St., New Glasgow wtih Rev. Donna Tourneur presiding, followed by visitation from 3 - 4:30pm, in Trinity United Church.
