Valerie Anne MacDonald, 73, of Kings Head, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow on December 7, 1948, Val was the daughter of Laura (Ryan) MacDonald and George "Bud" MacDonald of Stellarton, both of whom predeceased her.

Loved and admired by her spouse and best friend of 46 years, Greg, and her sons Ian MacDonald (Marley) of Hatchet Lake, and Colin MacDonald ( Kathryn) of Lower Sackville, Val will be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren, John, Ryan and Eli, who were the light of her life and brought her such great joy.

Val is also survived by sisters Gail Meikle and Jennifer MacDonald (Ross); nephews, Gavin Scott, Darren Scott, and Drew Meikle; darling nieces, Alexandra MacDonald (Brent), Meridith MacDonald, Lauralee Meikle and her beloved grand-nieces, Benny, Grier and Clemmie, all of whom she loved dearly.

Val is also survived by many cousins and in-laws.

Val was a graduate of Stellarton High School and University of King’s College, Halifax and originally taught school before beginning her career at The Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forests where she rose to the office of Director of Accounting Services.

Val later worked for many years as Office Manager for West Pictou Forest Owners Limited/later Pictou Forest Owners Limited where she greatly enjoyed her work and fellow workers.

Val so loved and enjoyed her family. A true life force, she loved to dance, sing, laugh, and have a great time, particularly Friday evenings in "Val’s kitchen" where she held court with Greg, Ross and Jen, and whoever else might drop in. She was an excellent cook, had an endless supply of recipes and prided herself on achieving flavour in her dishes that were greatly enjoyed by the Friday Night Gang and her family.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to R.H. Porter Funeral Home where a private family Service of Commemoration will be held with a Celebration of Life to take place at a later date.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Dickson Building at QEII and the Aberdeen Hospital (Palliative Care, Emergency Department and Four North).

A celebration of the life for Valerie will be held at Summer Street, 72 Park Street, New Glasgow, on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 3:00-5:00 pm with Remembrances at 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital (c/o Aberdeen Health Foundation).
