Jean MacKay (MacKenzie) Hopton, 95, of New Glasgow, passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital on January 12, 2023. Summers were spent at the cottage in Sinclair's Island. Always an adventurer, she was often found outdoors, whether in her garden or poking around in the woods. An avid bridge player, crossword puzzle solver, and voracious reader, Jean's dry humour often had her family in stitches. She spoke fondly of her time as a Cub pack leader over the years. She worked in MacKenzie Drugstore and later as it became Lolly's Gift Ltd. Jean was an active member and past-president of IODE's Sir Fredrick Banting Chapter; long-time volunteer of Tearman House and Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary and lifetime member of Trinity United Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Hopton RCAF Veteran; son, Tim Hopton; parents, Edwin and Ann (Betts) MacKenzie; brothers, Don and Roy. Celebration of life and burial will take place in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to Sir Fredrick Banting IODE, Tearman House or Aberdeen Health Foundation, Recruitment Sector. The family would like to thank all of Jean's closest friends, Dr. Tom Park, staff at RCU and Aberdeen's 4 South team for their care over the years. Your efforts allowed Jean to maintain her independence and autonomy, we cannot thank you enough for caring for our beloved Jean. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
