Robert John "Bobby" Hynes, long-time resident of Trenton, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2023 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS in the arms of his loving wife, Glenda, and youngest daughter, Shawna, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born April 23, 1949 in Port au Basques, NFLD, raised in St. Andrew's (Codroy Valley), he was a son of Patrick Hynes and Pearl Hynes (nee Carter) and raised by his much-loved grandmother, Frances Chaisson.

Bob was a kind and gentle man who was much loved by his family and many, many friends. A jack-of-all trades, he spent his life working in everything from serving in the military to construction. Bob was an avid hockey fan, always at the rink with his youngest son, Joey, or at the many away games cheering Joey on. Later, you could also always find him in the stands with brother-in-law Jim cheering for the Scotians. He would spend most mornings at Tim Hortons arguing with his buddies in the old man's corner. Always the proud Newfoundlander, he enjoyed going to one of many local jam sessions with his friends, often playing in local long-term care facilities. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need, Bob will be missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Hynes (nee Kelly) of Trenton; his children: Shawna (Devin), Pictou; Joey (Quen), Trenton; Andrea (Steve), Trenton; Shawn, Trenton; Wanda; Stephanie (Kent); his grandchildren: Zack, Sean Michael, Chris, Kate, Nick, Dani, Xzavier, Austin, Dakota, Cheyanne, Alexis, William, Lillian (his beloved Billy); and great-grandchildren: Noah, Adam and Ashton. Bob is also survived by his siblings, Judy Sheehan, St. John's, NFLD; Joe Hynes (Marie), PEI; Jerry Hynes (Val), CB; and Martin Hynes (Linda), Cornerbrook, NFLD.

He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick Hynes and Pearl Hynes (nee Carter); his sister, Stella and his beloved oldest daughter, Sherry Hynes-Hubley.

A special thank you to his daughters Andrea and Shawna for the loving and compassionate care to their father during his illness, and thank you to Andrea for all the trips to music over the years. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, the Aberdeen Oncology Clinic, Dr. Kwasnik-Krawczyk and VON.

Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 73 High Street, Trenton. Funeral mass 2 pm Monday in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 390 High Street, New Glasgow, with Fr. Tom Stephan officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to VON or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit.
