John Frederick "Jack" Hayden, 1940-2023. It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather, Jack Hayden, on Wednesday, January
18, 2023 at the age of 82. Jack was born in New Glasgow to Catherine
(Keenan) and George Bertram Hayden. He was the youngest of 5 children
and very much the "baby" as he recounted.
Jack had a full life. He was a hard worker and a strong
family man. He was employed with MacGregor and Sons (later called
Atlantic Wholesalers), then after it closed, went on to work at NSLC
until his retirement in 2007.
He had a true, genuine love for every member of his family,
especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was
fortunate enough to have many loving members of his extended family,
in NS, PEI and elsewhere, as well as many good friends. He especially
enjoyed his summer trips to PEI and Ontario to see his wonderful
family.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Saint
John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. He was proud to be a life-long
member of the Bombers Club where he enjoyed "a drink",
playing cards and exchanging stories with his
friends. He spent many a day playing cards and
winning with his family. He also mentioned many times how much he
enjoyed a good meal at his daughter's house. In his earlier years, he
was an avid hockey player and was inducted into the Pictou County Hall
of Fame.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Marion (Robertson);
children: Cheryle (Robin), Linda (Billy), Michael (Kelly) and Michelle
(Darren); grandchildren: Darcy, Jack, Shaynea (Steven), Mackenzie,
Hayden and Reid; great-grandchildren: Grayson, Kaegen, Katherine and
Lochlan; sister, Isabel MacDonald; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Jack was predeceased by sisters, Mabel and Catherine;
brothers, Bert and Tommy; and nephews, Jimmy, Philip and
Jackie.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are under the
direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave, New Glasgow,
where visitation will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 from 2-4 and
7-9 pm. Funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at
11 am at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow
with committal to follow. The Knights of Columus will meet at the
funeral home at 6:30pm Monday for prayers.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jack's memory
to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Red
Cross.
