It is with heavy hearts that the family of Florence Jean MacLeod, 87 years old, announce her passing on January 23, 2023, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.

Born in New Glasgow on July 23, 1935, to the late George Graham and Ethel Graham (Dort), Mum - Florence Jean MacLeod - aged 87 years, lived a very full life and was loved by her family and many friends over the years. She was well known from her years behind the jewelry counter in Zellers. In prior years, Mum was an active member of various bowling leagues, the 55 Club in New Glasgow and a frequent traveler to the dances throughout the county. Mum spent countless hours working on special needlepoints that were selected based on her love for the fortunate family members that she kept in mind while she made them. Every stitch was made with love. She was a "second mother" to many of her nieces and nephews. Mum loved each and every family member unconditionally and she was truly loved by them in return.  She loved her property in Pictou Landing and was proud of the flowers and shrubs that she nurtured over the years. When asked what her secret to happiness was, she told us it was "just to be kind and loving to people".

Florence was predeceased by her parents, George and Ethel Graham; her siblings, Kennie Graham, Alfie Graham and Bertha Beaudoin; and her grandson, Robbie MacLeod.  She is survived by her sons, Rick MacLeod (Emma), Kevin MacLeod (Dawn); her grandchildren, Graham MacLeod (Kristy), Ashley Maher (Wade), Ryan MacLeod (Shannon) and Pamela Clark. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Evan, Jack, Emmett, and Aaron.

We would like to thank the staff of Glen Haven Manor for the excellent care and compassion demonstrated over the years and the wonderful care provided by the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit in Mum's final days. Special thanks to Rev. Jeanne Hunter of St. George’s Anglican Church for the support provided to Mum and the family in Mum's journey home to her Lord.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2pm Monday, June 5, at Saint Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Jeanne Hunter officiating. Memorial donations can be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow.
