Carolyn Tait O’Brien MacIntosh (1925 – 2023)
From a life lived fully and generously, Carolyn Tait O’Brien MacIntosh of New Glasgow, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Jan 25, 2023.
Born in Toronto, ON on February 24, 1925, she was the daughter of George Erle O’Brien and Hilda Dunlop Tait. She attended Brown School, Havergal College, Bishop Strachan, Guelph University and NSAgC (Blueberry Cultivation). Carolyn was the last surviving member of the very close-knit Tait family, and she will be missed by an extensive group of nieces, nephews and cousins. Wonderful childhood summers and Christmases were mostly spent at Elmbank, the home of her maternal grandparents in Shediac NB. On one of her many visits to New Glasgow she met Donald Ross MacIntosh of Stellarton and they were joined in marriage in Shediac in 1952. Carolyn and Don moved to New Glasgow to raise their family of Ross, Jane and Mary. Over many years, happy times were had at the Melmerby cottage and Quarry Island Farm where family and friends gathered.
Trinity United church was a cornerstone for her faith and stewardship. She generously gave of her time and talents to the UCW, Unit O, leading Explorers and assisting with local charities. Carolyn prided herself in being the founder and president of a women’s bicycle club known as the Sunshine Girls. Outings were made to far and near destinations that resulted in adventure, merriment and sisterhood.
Carolyn and Don were fortunate to travel to many parts of the world spending winter holidays in Barbados and Bermuda. A now family tradition was to return with gifts for the children to distribute by casting a line into the fishpond.
Carolyn’s husband Don died in 1995. She continued living a full and happy life embraced by her close family. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Tait Fraser, brother George Allan O’Brien, and many dear cousins. She is survived by her three children, Ross (Sally) MacIntosh, Jane MacIntosh Moore (Michael), Mary MacIntosh (Kevin), grandchildren, Kaitlyn MacIntosh Touesnard (Corey), Jonathan MacIntosh (Rachel), Lauren MacIntosh (Ryan McArthur), Bronwyn Moore Murphy (James Murphy), Stuart Moore (Nicole), Peter MacIntosh, Colin MacIntosh. Great grandchildren Clark and Brock Touesnard, James and Claire MacIntosh, Henry and Jack McArthur, and Elle Jane Murphy.
Her nearest and dearest, kith and kin lovingly called her Coco.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan 31st, 2PM at Trinity United Church, New Glasgow. Carolyn’s family would like to extend their immense gratitude to the Shiretown team.
