Shirley Eileen (Reddick) Daye, Monastery, passed away peacefully in St. Martha’s Hospital Antigonish on January 28, 2023 (one day away from her 69th year), surrounded by her loving family. Formerly from Granville Street, New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Deacon John J. Reddick and Geneva Eileen (Skinner) Reddick. Shirley is survived by her children: Joe (Shannon), Ottawa; Geneva, Antigonish, and Joey (Grandson-whom she raised), Antigonish;  grandchildren: Alexander Jacques, Halifax, Joey Daye (Junior), Antigonish; sisters: Teena (Alexander), Plymouth; Ann, New Glasgow; Claire, Halifax; Sonya, New Glasgow; brothers: Lawrence (Marina), Guysborough; Hilton (Donna), Woodburn; Mike (Jean), Mount William; Gordie (Bruce), Riverton; Jason (Melissa), New Glasgow; Wayne MacKinnon, Ottawa; God-children: Cyril Jones, B.C.; Samantha Reddick, Antigonish; ex-husband, Barry Daye, Monastery; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.  She was predeceased by brother, John, Jr. and sisters, Wanda and an infant sister. 

She was baptised and a life-long member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow.  She attended Junior Choir, CGIT, BYF (Baptist Youth Fellowship), Same Folk Choir.  

Shirley worked at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and St. FX University in Antigonish for several years. She was a member of Tracadie Baptist Church and served on a couple of committees.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kate MacInnis, Dr. Gillis, Dr. Lisa Barrett, Dr. Hendrix, Dr. Kate MacEachern, Valerie Pettipas, Amanda Workman, Heather Brander, Rebecca MacDonald, the Oncology team and staff of St. Martha’s for all their care.

Family will greet visitors at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow on Wednesday, February 1st from 7-9 pm.  Celebration of Life Service will take place at Second United Baptist Church, Washington Street, New Glasgow, NS on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023 at 2pm. Donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow.  Cremation has taken place.  Interment will be at Lorne Street Cemetery (to be announced at a later date).  Repast will be in the Deacon B.H. Lawrence Hall at the Church with an opportunity to greet the family.
