Carol Elizabeth (Mahoney) Mitchell of Oromocto, NB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on February 1, 2023 at Hospice House in Fredericton, NB. Carol was the daughter of the late John Daniel "Jack" Mahoney and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Mahoney of Loch Katrine, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia.
Carol will be remembered as being a loving wife, proud mother and doting grandmother.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ernest Mitchell and former husbands, Sheldon Maling and Barrie MacLellan. She was also predeceased by brothers, Stephen Mahoney, Johnny Mahoney, and sister-in-law, Mabel Mahoney.
Carol is survived by her three sons, Christopher (Nancy) MacLellan, Edmonton, AB; Craig MacLellan, Greenwood, NS; and Derek (Jennifer) Maling, Lincoln, NB; and her beloved grandchildren, Sarah MacLellan, Emily (Bailey) Lang, Jordan (Kurtis) Philpott, Philip MacLellan, Jacob MacLellan, Brolin Maling, Caiden Maling and Ethan Maling.
She is also survived by her brothers, Leith Mahoney, Terry (Teresa) Mahoney, Glen Mahoney (Ramona) and sisters-in-law, Marion Mahoney and Margaret Mahoney.
When Carol married Ernie, she was blessed with a second family of stepchildren including, Blake Mitchell, Cece Mitchell, Margie (Lloyd) MacPherson, Deborah (Dean) Anderson, Donna-Lynn (Chris) Provost, along with several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Carol’s family would like to thank the doctors working with palliative care and the staff at Hospice House Fredericton where Carol received kind and compassionate care from the doctors and nurses. We would also like to thank her caring friends and neighbours in her apartment building on Restigouche Road, Oromocto, NB, who showed her much love and care, especially her friend and caregiver, Lise Daigle.
Visitation will be held at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, NS on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, NS on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2 pm with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date at Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow, NS.
