It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Robert Leigh "Bobby", age 68, on February 10, 2023 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Bobby was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on August 5, 1954. His childhood home was on Egerton Street which provided a wonderful neighbourhood to grow up in. Bobby went to the West Side School and then walked across the bridge for junior and senior high. Bobby’s solid work ethic started early in life as he worked at his father’s store, The Canteen, located in Stellarton. Following this, he found employment in various Pictou County workplaces including Michelin and Hawker Siddeley.
Throughout his youth Bobby developed an ear for music and spent time playing drums in a few local bands while building a record collection which would rival any serious music aficionado.
In 1983, the winds of travel called Bobby away to Ontario. After dabbling with a few different jobs, Bobby landed what would become his career of a lifetime – employment at the prestigious and world renowned, Etobicoke based, St. George’s Golf and Country Club. Bobby had truly found the job of his dreams and was extremely proud to say he worked there. He had many stories about the club, and he could talk for hours about his "second home".
Known as a bit of a pool shark, Bobby enjoyed many hours at the Crooked Cue in Etobicoke. His passion for music was always nearby as he delighted in sharing trivia about many different artists and bands.
Comedic and witty, he loved to tell jokes and had quite a repertoire of them. Everyone who met Bobby will always remember his positivity and ability to make others smile.
"I thought I thought of everything" is a phrase of special meaning for which Bobby would like to be remembered.
Bobby was predeceased by his mother and father, Rita (MacNeil) and Walter Leigh; sisters, Anne Murray and Linda Leigh. He is survived by his daughter, Erin Leigh (John) Rosborough; grandson, Max Rosborough; sister, Patsi (Dave) Blaikie; brother-in-law, Robert Murray; former wife, Debra Leigh; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who were so wonderful to Bobby at the Aberdeen Hospital, the palliative care team and VON nurses. Donations may be made to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society or the VON
There will be no visitation. A family celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
