Doris (Aikens) Caulier, age 88, of Little Harbour, NS, passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. We sorrowfully say farewell to our loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Doris was born in New Glasgow, NS, to Edna and Robert Aikens of Little Harbour. Doris loved to tell stories about growing up on the farm with her ten siblings, and Momma and Papa. Doris was a devoted Christian and an active member of the Church of the Nazarene where she worked in the church nursery for over forty years. Doris married Alfred in 1958 and worked at the V.G. Hospital in Halifax until they started a family. Doris was a stay-at-home mom of five children and ran her own "tight ship" at home while Al was away serving in the Navy. In 1986 Doris and Al built her dream home "on the hill" in Little Harbour on their piece of the Aikens farm. She was an avid quilter and made hundreds of quilts that she gifted to family and friends. She enjoyed travelling with her sisters Diane and Eva and family gatherings.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Alfred Caulier, and her siblings, Evelyn, Molly, Lola, Carolyn, Lloyd, and Warren. She is survived by her sisters, Diane Aikens, Eva Aikens, Helen Bonvie, and Isabel Snow; sons: Barry (Paula), Wade (Nancy), Phillip (Darlene), Paul, and daughter, Michelle Porch (John). Mourning the loss of their nanny are grandchildren, Matthew (Marieke), Ashley, Amy Lou (Dorian), Monika (Scott), Shawn, Austin, Myriska, Kali, Caulier, Brynn, Sampson; and great-grandchildren, Tabor, James, Millie, Beau, Everett, Roman, and Lettie; sister-in-law, Shirley Aikens.
We would like to thank the staff at Valley View Villa for the kindness and excellent care that was given to Doris over the last four years.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am, at the Church of the Nazarene in Trenton, reception to follow. Interment will be scheduled at a later date. If desired donations can be made to Big Lake Nazarene Camp or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
