Dorothy Fraser Holmes, 90, passed away peacefully at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow on May 5, 2023.

Dorothy and her maternal twin, June (Smith), were born on August 6, 1932 to Lillian (MacNeil) and Edward Connors. After graduating from New Glasgow High School, she worked at Waldren's Studio in New Glasgow until her marriage in 1952. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Ralph; their three children: Gerald (Mary), Oakfield; Cindy Dunlop (Brian), Vogler's Cove and Janice Chisholm (Neil), New Glasgow.  She is also survived by her twin sister and best friend, June Smith, Coalburn, as well as her grandchildren: Phillip and Allison (Gerald), Blair, Kim and Ross (Cindy) and Scott, Brian and Lisa (Janice) and 12 great-grandchildren.  Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Stewart and an infant son and two infant sisters.

Dorothy spent many happy summers at Sea Foam Campground and the family cottage on Caribou Island.  In her younger years, she was an avid curler and ice skater.  In retirement, Dorothy and Ralph became winter Texans and enjoyed many fishing trips in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador.  Dorothy had a very soft heart for animals and was a lifelong supporter of the SPCA.  She filled her home with adorable stuffed teddy bears.  She was a highly skilled crocheter and this is evidenced by all the beautiful baby blankets, doilies and tablecloths in the homes of her loved ones.

Dorothy was a fantastic hostess and loved preparing large family meals, as well as beautiful meals for the many business associates that Ralph took home.

Dorothy was a 60+ member of the Rebekah Lodge, receiving her 60 year jewel in May 2016.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and was active in the Ladies' Guild.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff in Whispering Tide at Glen Haven Manor for their amazing care and compassion for our mother as she lived her final years suffering from Alzheimer's disease.  The staff were like family to her and to our father.

Visitation will be held at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave, New Glasgow on Wednesday, May 10th from 11am-1pm.  Funeral service to follow at 1pm, officiated by Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson. Interment at Riverbank Cemetery, Tony River. Family flowers only.  Donations in her name may be made to the Pictou County SPCA or The Riverbank Cemetery, Tony River. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
