Anne Pink

1929-2023

Anne Pink

Anne Catherine Pink. Anne passed away suddenly at 94 years of age on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in Antigonish after enjoying several days of visiting with family from Alberta. She took great pleasure in meeting her first great-grandchild, Eliana Rae Pink, and spent hours laughing at her antics and baby talk.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1929, Anne was the daughter of Anna Katerina and John Henry Janz. She was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her parents and two brothers. She was married to her loving husband, Jack, for 70 years until he passed away in 2022.

Beginning in her teenage years she sewed many of her own clothes, starting on a 1922 Singer treadle sewing machine before graduating to an electric machine after she was married.  Graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree, her first job was working as a chemist in the Research and Development Laboratory of Canadian Industries Limited in McMasterville, Quebec. It was there that she met and married Jack Pink from Neepawa, Manitoba. Anne moved to New Glasgow with Jack and her three sons in 1969.

Before retiring to The Maples in Antigonish in April 2019, Anne was a member of the Trinity United Church and was active in the choir, United Church Women and served on the Committee of Stewards. She was a member of the Trinitarians Choir, volunteered with the New Glasgow Music Festival, Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary and other community activities. For many years she was an active member of the Bluenose Curling Club, and was on several senior’s provincial championship teams. Over the years her leisure activities included gardening, knitting, piano, cycling, swimming, and walking.

She raised three boys and a husband, cared for the house and cooked excellent meals for her family. When the boys were safely off to school, she worked part time at different vocations, including tutoring in chemistry. She was a small lady but believed in meeting a challenge head on.

Anne will be fondly remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother by her family who include her three sons, Dennis (Cathy), Gord, Alan (Arlene); grandchildren, Ryan, Jenny, Nick (Nissa), Greg (Bree) and great grand-daughter, Eliana.

Cremation has taken place and the memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church in New Glasgow on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at 11 am with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please. Memorial gifts may be made to the SPCA of Pictou County, Trinity United Church Organ Fund, or a charity of your choice.
