Ernest "Ernie" William Murray, age 78 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 2nd in the Palliative Care unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. 

Ernie was born on August 5th, 1944 to Catherine "Kay" (Cormier) and Arthur Murray of Little Harbour. 

Ernie grew up in Little Harbour and later moved to Thorburn to raise his family. He was a "Jack of all Trades" and worked in various jobs and locations within Pictou County, finally retiring fifteen years ago from his caretaker/custodian position at the Royal Bank, Provost Street, New Glasgow. Ernie built and renovated many homes and structures in the area, including homes for his sons. When doing any of his many carpenter projects, he always said, "If you are going to do it, do it right".

Ernie enjoyed his life and family to the fullest and had one of the most incredible sense of humor ever, which so many got to enjoy. He loved going for drives and camping with the love of his life and best friend, Evelyn, who was by his side for the last 59 years. They were always together and never went anywhere without each other. One of Ernie’s biggest passions was hockey. He spent many years at the rinks with his two beloved sons, David and Roy, who were both on the ice by the age of five. He then lovingly and proudly watched his two grandsons, Kirklin and Spencer, play their passions, hockey for Kirklin and baseball for Spencer. He was one of the proudest grandfathers in Pictou County

Surviving is the love of his life Evelyn (Vincent) Murray, New Glasgow; sons, David (Joan), Fraser’s Mountain; Roy (Gillian), Thorburn; the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren, Kirklin (Lauren), Stellarton; Spencer, Thorburn; his brothers, Norman, Roy; sisters, Barbara (Danny) Pitts, Beverly (Orest) Luka; his in-laws, Judy (Brian) Richard, Bonnie Pitts, Katherine (George) Vincent, Cyril Vincent, Bob Vincent; along with several nieces and nephews. 

Ernie was predeceased by both of his parents, Catherine "Kay" and Arthur Murray; brother-in-law, Douglas Pitts; sisters-in-law, Lynda Murray, Zena Vincent, Brenda Vincent.

There will be no funeral services by request of the deceased. A private family service will be held. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made in his memory to the Palliative Care Unit c/o Aberdeen Health Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
