John Wesley Lidstone (born April 4, 1939 in Dalhousie, N.B.) passed away on July 9, 2023 in the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. 

John was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Isabel (Cochrane) Lidstone; sister, Marilyn Hoppe and two grandchildren, Caelen Lidstone and Ryan Sawyer. He is survived by brothers, David and Bill; and sister, Betty; former wife, Anne Brand (MacLean); children, Wanda Lee (Sawyer) and John Michael; and grandchildren, Kyle Sawyer and Dane Lidstone.

John grew up in Dalhousie, N.B., Cambridge and Scarborough, Ontario.  He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force then worked for the QNSL (Quebec North Shore Labrador) Railroad in Sept-Iles where he met his wife, Anne (MacLean). They were married in Sept-Iles and had two children, John Michael and Wanda Lee.

In 1967, the family moved to Ottawa where John was employed by Northern Electric. As an electronic technician, John was a project manager for the construction of Canada’s first satellite-the Anok A Satellite. In 1975, the family moved to West Bay Road, Inverness County, N.S. where John worked for Gulf Oil and Nova Scotia Department of Environment-Water Resources.

John moved to Antigonish, then, was recently admitted to the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.

John’s passion was spending time with family and friends and outdoors hunting and fishing.

He will be missed by his many friends and family members. Many thanks are extended to the many health care workers who helped him through his medical challenges from St. Martha’s Hospital, Glen Haven Manor and the Aberdeen Hospital.

There will be a Celebration of Life for friends and family at the West Bay Road Fire Hall on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 from 12-2pm.
