Brock Fraser

1986-2023

Brock Fraser

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Christian Brock Fraser on July 26th, 2023. Brock spent his last moments enjoying the family summer home at Point 44 before he was unexpectedly immersed in the ocean and didn't make it back. Brock was loved deeply by his friends and family and touched the lives of all who surrounded him.

Brock was born in New Glasgow on November 13th, 1986, to loving parents Clyde and Rose Fraser and adoring siblings Meghan and Aaron. Brock was a long-awaited blessing who brought tremendous joy to the family. Brock was brought up as a member of Trinity United Church and felt a balance in his life between his religious upbringing and his scientific beliefs. Throughout his life, Brock exemplified a relentless drive in all his endeavors. In his early years Brock spent much time in the hospital due to his Asthma and required medical interventions for the first few years of life.

Brock grew up surrounded by siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He enjoyed playing competitive sports, spending time with friends, learning about science, enjoying summers with cousins at Braeshore and on the sandbar at Point 44 with his paternal grandparents.

Brock developed a love for sports at an early age, starting with CanSkate and Kinsmen Power Skating where he first hit the ice and never stopped. Brock played AAA hockey where he was a small but mighty force on the ice. He played bigger than his size and was known for his heart, grittiness, and leadership. Brock was awarded many accolades during his hockey career and continued to play throughout high school where he was captain of the North Nova Education Centre Gryphons. During his adolescent years, Brock continued to excel academically and athletically and was named athlete of the year in 2005.

Though Brock was involved in many sports, soccer was his true passion. Brock was a dedicated athlete and great teammate who loved the game of soccer with devotion. Brock was awarded the Buddy Daye Scholarship for leadership, academic excellence, and community involvement, which brought him to Mount Allison University where he began his university soccer career and played for two seasons. Brock later transferred to St. Francis Xavier University where he donned an X-men Soccer jersey for the 2009 season. He later switched to X-men rugby where he competed ferociously for his final years of his undergraduate degree. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Joint Advanced Major in 2010 and continued his academic and athletic career at Memorial University where he began his Masters in Advanced Physics and Math 2010-2011 and played soccer for the Seahawks.

Brock once again returned to St. Francis Xavier University where he furthered his studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Education in 2013. A love for learning, he was most recently enrolled as a student in the Master of Education program at STFX.

Brock thrived on being an educator and touched the lives of students across the country. Beginning his teaching career in Fort McMurray Alberta, he later moved to Calgary where he taught science, math, and physics and then North Nova Education Centre. Brock was adored by his students and aimed to empower them in the classroom and through coaching soccer and track & field. Brock thrived on being an educator and was a member of the Black Educators Association and school representative for NSTU. Recently, Brock was focused on developing culturally relevant curriculum involving Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian historical practices within high school math.

Brock was a proud father to Keira Rose Alcorn (Robyn Alcorn-Martin) born May 23rd, 2007, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Keira brought tremendous joy to Brock’s life and the two shared many special memories. Keira and Brock both shared a love for music and enjoyed sending 90’s Hip-Hop playlists back and forth. They shared a love for pop culture and enjoyed sharing TV series and movies with each other.

Brock is survived by his parents, Rose and Clyde Fraser; daughter, Keira Rose Alcorn; brother, Aaron Fraser (Evelyn Leblanc); niece/sister, Aliyah Rose Fraser; niece, Knoxy Rose Fraser, and was predeceased by sister, Meghan Fraser; maternal grandparents, Patience and Leonard Paris and paternal grandparents, Muriel and Ralph Fraser.
