We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, James (Jim) Curwin Crocket on August 6th, 2023 surrounded by those who loved him dearly.
Jim was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario on September 30th, 1966 to James and Frances (Kerr) Crocket. He grew up in New Glasgow and attended Saint Francis Xavier University where he obtained a degree of Bachelor of Information Systems. He began his 30-year career in the pulp and paper industry at Scott Paper in 1993, enjoying multiple roles during this time. Following the closure of the mill, Jim continued to work for Paper Excellence, travelling across Canada and Europe to share his expertise.
Jim and his wife, Patricia (MacKay), began their journey 40 years ago. Together, they cherished raising their two beautiful daughters, Laura (Seth Burrill), and Jamie. Jim was a family man, who selflessly devoted his life to creating the best possible world for his daughters. This included sitting at a pool side for swim meets, at the court side for volleyball games, beside the soccer and softball field, and listening to concerts with earplugs. Jimmy wore many hats over the years including coach, computer technician, chauffeur, teacher, photographer, movie/music critic, life coach, chicken finger connoisseur, but would adamantly insist the only hat fit to sit on his head was a Boston Bruins cap.
Along with Jim’s parents, wife, and daughters, Jim is also survived by siblings, Gail (Andrew) Sample and Jane (Patrick) Mullally, mother-in-law, Geraldine MacKay, brother-in-law, Craig MacKay, several nephews and a niece. Jim was predeceased by father-in-law, Tom MacKay.
Jim enjoyed combing the beach for a perfect piece of blue sea glass in his ‘happy place’ at Ponds. After walking the beach with their dog Carey, Jim enjoyed eating his favorite snack, Kraft Smooth peanut butter and toast.
His girls will forever embody his wonderful traits and they know he will always be watching over them. As Dad would say, "Saul Goodman" (s’all good, man).
Visitation for Jim Crocket will be held at R. H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow on Thursday, August 10th from 5 to 8pm. A private family service will be held. Burial will take place at the Abercrombie Cemetery.
