It is with heavy hearts the family of Anne Elizabeth Melanson announce her peaceful passing August 7, 2023 in Palliative Care at Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by her loving family. 

Born Oct 11, 1932 in Trenton, NS, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Fraser) Cooke.

Anne and Mickey raised their family of 8 children in the country of Island East River, where Anne enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting, cleaning and gardening. Anne was always involved in the community with the Women's Institute, Boy Scouts and 4-H.

At age 44 she went to work at Valley View Villa as a CCA. This job gave her great joy and she treated the residents with dignity and respect. After Anne retired, she enjoyed her ladies’ luncheons with her dear friends. 

Anne had a beautiful mind; she cherished her family visits and her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her storytelling & knowledge of family history. 

Anne was a deeply religious person and a member of the CWL.

Spring Street Apartments was home to Anne, where she enjoyed hot cups of tea, lots of stories, laughter and visits from her neighbours. She was a resident of Valley View Villa for the past 4 months, where she enjoyed many activities and new company. 

Anne is survived by her children: Sharon, New Glasgow; Donna (Jim), Stellarton; Clary (Janet), Pictou; Kenny (Shirley), Eureka; Charmaine (Kim), Chester; Kristal (Dave), Fredericton; Bernard, Moncton. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Mickey; sons, Andrew in infancy, Michael; as well as stepmother, Kay (MacAdam) Cooke. She was the last surviving member of the Cooke family, being predeceased by brothers, Donnie, Billy, Allan, and sisters Lois, Katherine, and Joyce. 

Visitation will take place 11:30am-12:30pm, Funeral Service to follow at 1pm on Saturday, August 12th at R.H Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Reception to follow at Sister Catherine Steele Centre. Family flowers only with donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Shepherd’s Lunch Room.
