It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Ryan (April 28, 1946 - August 19, 2023); much loved husband of Marguerite Ryan, father of Tannis Ryan (James Rose partner). He was a brother to 12 other siblings and is survived by his sister, Pat Hughes. He was a cherished friend and neighbour. 

Dennis was born and raised in Trenton, NS. He had huge aspirations from an early age and started out as a tradesman working as a pipefitter in British Columbia and Alberta which enabled him to also tirelessly pursue multiple university degrees. Dennis earned his Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Industrial Relations at McGill University in 1982, and then moved on to earn his Master of Industrial Relations at Queen’s University in 1984. 

He had a successful career after his education. He was a professor of Industrial Relations at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland for 2 years and then relocated to Toronto, Ontario, where he worked in the field of Labour Relations as a consultant and liaison. He also proudly opened his own consulting practice called DenMar Consulting. He then became the Director of Industry Human Resources for the Canadian Construction Association in Ottawa, Ontario for another decade. He loved his work there and was very settled in his home life in Ormond, Ontario during this time. 

Dennis was forced into an early retirement at age 59 as a result of multiple severe health conditions and concerns. He remained tenacious and mentally strong-willed despite this difficult end to his beloved career. 

Dennis was a selfless man with a heart of gold. He lit up every room with his bright smile, sharp wit and vibrant sense of humour. He was very intellectually innovative and loved researching his family genealogy. He could often be found enjoying a cup of coffee, enjoying time on his computer or going for long country drives. His shining spirit will be missed by his loved ones. 

We owe a special Thank You to the caring "Angels" during Dennis’ short visit in the Palliative Care Unit at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. His immediate family will be gathering for a private service to honour his life and legacy. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
