Dakota Francis Storme Atkins, Oct 27th, 1996 - Sept 25th, 2023. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones and was welcomed home into the loving arms of those who passed before him.
Dakota was a loving, caring and kind young man, an old soul who had an infectious smile, but a mischievous twinkle in his eye as well. He had a soft spot for children and he wouldn't hesitate to sit down and play Lego, build blocks or play a video game. He had a love for all animals but especially his cat (his fur baby) Kitters, dogs Zoey and Pheobe.
Those who knew Dakota know he was a social butterfly and had many friends and acquaintances; he loved a good game of chess, old school online games and watching old movies with Mom. He had a love of music and when he wasn't pacing the kitchen, he would be dancing in it. He was passionate about a lot of things but loved his family undoubtedly.
He is survived by his mama, Anastasia "Stacee" Atkins, step-dad, Jeffery Brittain, his two little buddies, bros and best friends, Logan Brittain and Lucca Brittain who affectionately called him Chum; they loved him even when he stole some of their fries or treats for "brother tax".
He is also survived by his uncle, Todd Atkins "Uncle Toad", Sask; cousin, Maggie "Moss" who he never got to meet but was proud to share a love of anime with; honorary aunt, Deanne Maclean (godmother) affectionately known as Daddy Dee Dee, from the first to the last you will always be her Punkie Head and D. Doo; chosen sister and brother, Mikayla Maclean (Brandon), Eli "fry guy" and a niece on the way who he was proud to be honorary uncle to both; Dyllan Maclean (Azlyn) who he was excited to know of the little one on the way; godfather, Chad Snair who showed him how to love trucks, french fries, loud stereos and AC/DC; honorary aunt, Janice (Sandy) Harris who watched him come into this world and grow up loving him like one of her own; chosen cousins, Morgan, Michael, Shelby; honorary aunt, Amber (Simon) O'Connor Cosh, who would do anything he needed including putting him in his place when warranted; chosen cousins, Drake, Draven, Deagen and Lilly.
Dakota was honored to be welcomed into the Brittain/Getson family by Randy (Vee) Brittain who Dakota enjoyed visiting (especially at supper); Terrol Getson, who he thought of as Granny as much as Logan and Lucca do; aunt, Juanita (Dino) Askounis Brittain and cousin, George who he didn't get to see often but loved.
He was predeceased by his grandmother, Catherine Atkins whom he never met but loved to hear stories and see pictures of her; his poppa, Michael Atkins who he only had for 14 years but loved him every day of his 26 years; his great-grandmother (Nanny) Helen Boyles, he was the light of her life, her little side kick and her best fishing buddy; grandmother, Juanita Brittain.
Dakota had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest.
Special thanks to the staff at the Aberdeen ER and ICU, as well as the amazing team in the Halifax Infirmary ICU especially Daniella, David, Bruce and Kristen. Thank you for the love and compassion you showed me and my family, you are forever in our hearts.

You made me a mom, I only got you for 26 years and I wish there were more. I love you my Bubba Boo and it’s never goodbye, it's ‘til we meet again and I hope that heaven has a smoking section.
Loved ones will celebrate his life in a private celebration.
The family ask that anyone wishing to make monetary donations that they be made to the trust for Logan and Lucca, honoring his love for them and his deepest desire to assist them in a sturdy foundation to their bright futures. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
