Bernadette Marie Dorrington, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home in Truro, NS. Born on May 16, 1947 in New Glasgow, NS, she was a daughter of Ambrose and Lillian (Purcell) Martin. As a devout Catholic, it is appropriate that she would pass on All Saints’ Day.
Bernadette was a caring, generous and sometimes feisty soul. Her greatest accomplishment and joy was her son, Perry, whom she loved dearly, along with her cherished daughter-in-law, Nancy.
Bernadette had a soft spot for animals and had many fur babies over the years who provided her great companionship. She possessed a dry sense of humour, enjoyed country and western music, shiny jewellery and Tim’s coffee – not necessarily in that order.
Her family wish to thank, with great appreciation and gratitude, the incredible staff of Cedarstone who extended Bernadette exceptional care, patience, and affection. Many of the staff became her friends. As the Funeral Director walked her out, staff stood side by side holding candles. What a wonderful tribute. Mom would have been so pleased.
Bernadette especially enjoyed her close friend, Debbie. They shared many a laugh, pizza, and greatly appreciated all the coffee runs to Tim’s that Debbie’s sister, Patsy, made for them.
Bernadette is survived by her very supportive family: son, Perry (Nancy), Vancouver, BC; brothers: Jim (Judy), Stellarton; Reg (Sharon), Westville; sisters: Anne (Michael) McAlpine, Halifax/Florida; Cathy (Paul) MacDonald, New Glasgow; Rita (Colin) Mathieson, Salt Spring Island, BC; and brother-in-law, Bill Fraser, Ontario. She had many fond memories of her cousins in Portuguese Cove where she loved to spend the summers as a teenager. Bernadette is also the proud aunt of many nieces and nephews who reside all over the world.
Bernadette was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Mary Fraser, a brother in infancy and a nephew in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery at a later date.
