Marjorie "Mardy" Graham (Stairs) MacNeil - age 98.
With much sadness, we announce the passing of Mardy MacNeil on
November 29, 2023, a compassionate, caring and loving mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend to new and old. Mardy
was a very dedicated walker, lover of animals and an avid gardener
well into her nineties. Her active lifestyle enabled her to amaze
people at her youthful appearance and physical
abilities.
Born in Halifax, November 16th, 1925,
she was the daughter of the late Herbert M. Stairs and Vera MacDonald
Stairs. She attended Halifax Ladies Collage and Edgehill School for
girls. Mardy was active in the Canadian Red Cross and other volunteer
organizations during the war. She worked as a secretary with the
Halifax based firm, William Stairs Sons & Morrow until her
marriage in 1950 to Donald S. MacNeil at Fort Massey United Church,
Halifax before moving to New Glasgow, Pictou County. They later
resided in Little Harbour, overlooking Chapel Cove for the rest of
their married life. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald and her
sister Mary Robinson. For the past year and a half, Mardy resided at
Shiretown Nursing Home where she developed new friendships and was so
appreciative of her nursing and support team.
Mardy is survived by her sons: David, Graham (Carolyn) and
beloved grandchildren, Nicole (Bruce) Collings, and Steven (Maggie) as
well as nieces and nephews across Canada and in the United States. On
November 15th, 2023 her great-grandchild, Lake
William Collings, celebrated his first birthday one day before Mardy
happily celebrated her
98thbirthday.
